On Thursday, October 21, 2010 at 10:21 a.m., the Buena Park Library District will be participating in the Great California Shakeout. At 10:21 a.m., there will be some "earthquake sounds" alerting us to the start of the "earthquake" -- this begins the "Drop, Cover, Hold" portion of the drill. At the end of the "earthquake", the evacuation of the building will begin. Once the evacuation has been completed and the building has been declared "safe", everyone can reenter.
Why is it important to do a Drop, Cover, and Hold on drill? As with anything, to react quickly you must practice often. You may only have seconds to protect yourself in an earthquake, before strong shaking knocks you down--or drops something on you.
If you are in the Library at the time of the drill you will be part of the largest earthquake drill ever!!
