47 Candles for J.K. Rowling

Wishing J.K. Rowling the most magical of birthdays!

Even Voldemort sends birthday greetings.

"I wrapped it myself."

Ten things you may not know about the birthday lady

1. J.K. stands for Joanne Kathleen. Rowling's agent didn't want to use Rowling's full name in fear that boys wouldn't read books written by a woman.

2. Rowling doesn't have a middle name but uses the initial K in honor of her late grandmother Kathleen.

3. Barry Cunningham, the editor who purchased the first Harry Potter book, told Rowling, at the time a single mother on welfare, "You'll never make any money out of children's books, Jo."

4. Rowling is the first person to become a billionaire by book-writing.

5. Rowling named Harry after her childhood friends Ian and Vikki Potter.

6. Rowling married her husband, Dr. Neil Scott Murray, in a library! The couple wed in the library of one of their homes on December 26, 2001.

7. After writing the first book in longhand, Rowling typed and retyped the book several times since she did not have enough money to photocopy it.

8. Rowling has said that she planned the series "so carefully I sometimes feel as though my brain is going to explode."

9. Upon completing the final book of the series in a room of the Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh, Rowling danced a little dance and then wrote on the bust of Hermes outside the window, "J.K. Rowling finished writing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in this room (522) on 11th Jan 2007."

10. Rowling's first novel for adults, entitled The Casual Vacancy, will be released on September 27, 2012.

Will you read Rowling's new book?
